Dr.Mary L. Radnofsky, President of the Socrates
Institute, and Jean-Luc Bonnissent, Principal of the Sainte-Marie
School, launched the exchange program on Tuesday morning in the
school's media center.
As reported in Ouest France The partnership between
Caen and her American sister city Alexandria, VA, now includes an
educational program initiated by a U.S. institute specialized in
pedagogy. [...] In the next school year, an exchange program will
become operational between the Sainte-Marie and Bosnières
schools in Caen and Patrick Henry Elementary
in Alexandria. It was created and initiated by Dr. Mary Radnofsky,
President of the Socrates Institute. [...] The agenda is already
set: at the end of October, five French teachers will travel to
the United States in order to learn how to implement this program
in their own institution. The first concrete step will be to connect
the schools by e-mail and via the Web. The American students will
begin by visiting museums, taking digital pictures and writing commentaries
on their Web site, which their French counterparts will visit virtually.
The students from Caen will then in turn set up their own site to
present their region, Normandy, to the students at Patrick Henry
E.S. "This opening to the world and to other cultures is a
fundamental aspect of our pedagogical philosophy" said Dr.
Radnofsky. All students will present their work together on the
occasion of Alexandria's 250th anniversary in the Spring of 1999.
